HMRC & the Freedom of Information Act 2000

HM Revenue & Customs is responsible, under the overall direction of Treasury Ministers for:-

  • The efficient administration of income tax, corporation tax, VAT, capital gains tax, petroleum revenue tax, inheritance tax, national insurance contributions, stamp duties and other excise and customs duties.
  • The payment of Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit and Child Benefit.
  • Front line role in protecting our society from illegal imports and tax fraud.
  • Making sure that all employers meet the National Minimum Wage rules.
  • Collecting repayments of Student Loans in the majority of cases.
