Information About The Association of Taxation Technicians
Question Why should you select an ATT member?
Answer Richard J Allen replied: "I have achieved Taxation Technician qualifications and am a current member of the ATT and registered with them as "a member in practice". I must complete regular work to maintain my active membership. As an ATT member I am subject to a stringent ethical code that governs my professional conduct. These regularly updated skills are of tremendous benefit to all my clients."
Background Information About The ATT The Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) was established in 1989 to provide a taxation qualification for individuals employed in industry, commerce and the public sector, as well as those employed in professional practices.
The ATT is the leading professional body for tax specialists engaged in assisting individuals and businesses comply with their tax obligations.
The Association of Taxation Technicians was established in 1989 under the sponsorship of the Institute of Taxation (now the Chartered Institute of Taxation). Its creation recognised the increasing demand for tax services and the development of tax practice as a professional activity in its own right. Tax practice includes tax compliance work, namely the preparation of the tax returns that corporate and individual taxpayers must file. The primary objective of the Association is to provide an appropriate qualification for individuals who undertake such work. Those who meet the membership requirements have their qualification recognised by use of the title of "Taxation Technician" and the designatory letters ATT.
The ATT has over 9,000 members, affiliates and registered students. Candidates for membership must satisfy the Association's examination requirements, which cover business and personal taxation together with accountancy and law, and have had a period of practical experience. ATT qualification enables members to provide taxation compliance services directly to the public.
The Association operates a registration scheme for such members under which they must meet certain requirements. These include having appropriate professional indemnity insurance and undertaking continuing professional development to keep their knowledge up to date. Those who meet the registration requirements may state on their business stationery that they are "Registered with the Association of Taxation Technicians as a Member in Practice" and exhibit the Association's badge. Taxation Ethics and Discipline The ATT and the Chartered Institute of Taxation established an independent organisation (referred to as The Taxation Disciplinary Board) to handle all complaints against members of both bodies. If an alleged breach of ethics or standards is established by the Disciplinary Committee of The Taxation Disciplinary Board it can impose penalties or, in a serious case, exclusion from membership.
